As a sidenote, leaving the ballista right after entering it is not necessary.
And some combinations do not work. Pretty much all the "AnyWeapon → Fists" combos work, but "SecondaryWeapon → PrimaryWeapon" do not.
Only the speed property is changed, damage and range are the ones' from the weapon you see that you have. Fists can't do maul damage and have its range, but will be fast enough to compensate it.
